Terrence Lester is a pianist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music has been a vibrant part of Detroit’s music scene for over 35 years. Based in Farmington Hills, he began his career in the early 1980s, performing solo piano and touring as a keyboardist, percussionist, and vibraphonist. Along the way, he also composed music for local television shows and jingles, showcasing his versatility both on and off the stage.
Known for his ability to adapt to any setting, Terrence performs as a solo pianist, one-man band, and in ensembles ranging from intimate duos to dynamic quartets. His repertoire spans Smooth Jazz, Bebop, Blues, R&B, Salsa, Reggae, Latin Jazz, and Classical—allowing him to create the perfect atmosphere whether for elegant dinners, cocktail hours, private celebrations, or large-scale concerts.
Terrence has shared the stage with many renowned national artists, including Gloria Lynne, Wendell Harrison, Les McCann, Jimmy McGriff, Roy Ayers, Alexander Zonjic, Regna Carter, Marlena Shaw, Freda Payne, Earl Klugh, and Arthur Prysock.
Today, Terrence continues to enchant audiences as a solo pianist and as the leader of The Island Guys, a Caribbean steel drum band. Locally, you can catch his performances at a variety of local clubs in the Detroit metro area and ongoing at Detroit Metro Airport’s Delta Terminal, where his music welcomes travelers with warmth and sophistication.
